Handel Parker was born in West Yorkshire to a musical family who named most of their children after composers.  After a short spell working in a textiles mill, he began to develop his amateur musicianship into a professional career, working as an organist, a tutor and a conductor of brass bands and choirs.

Parker had a relatively small output as a composer with Deep Harmony being his most celebrated composition.  Roy Newsome has set this beautifully haunting melody in a simple, yet effective arrangement for brass band.
