When tuning your snare drum, its best to start here (specially when mounting a new head) before tuning by ear, or with any other measuring device.

The new Freer Percussion Head Gauge comes with a Pearl Drum key and a measuring canister. Simply pulling down your counterhoop evenly with this device ensures that you are at the perfect starting point to tune by ear or with a drum dial. If you use calf heads, then this device is imperative, because the drum dial will not give you an accurate read. Convenient and easy to read lines and numbers, with a tall enough scale to measure even field drums with wood hoops.
