Windows of the World, (wind version written for the Royal Norwegian Navy Band), provides solo opportunities for several principal players. Graham takes us first to Latin America, then to Japan, and onwards to sub-Saharan Africa. We get a gentle reprieve via a nostalgic hint of the British Isles before we land in the melting pot of all styles, the USA. In this final movement the driving swing section is abruptly stopped and a drum cadenza leads us back into the opening Latin music, with hints of the other styles as well. Described by Professor Ron Holz as "a global musical village", stylistic diversity is celebrated, and young musicians have fun while learning to master and embrace the performance practice requirements of each. The six movements 1) Amazonia 2) Rainforest 3) The Rising Sun 4) Drums of Thunder 5) Celtic Dream and 6) Earth Walk can be programmed individually
Suite from Hymn of the HighlandsAMP 047-010 Suite from Hymn of the Highlands draws three expressive musical pictures of the Scottish highlands. The first movement, Ardross Castle, features solo passages for clarinet and bassoon and features a fascinating bagpipe melody. The second movement, Alladale, is a saxophone trio with an accompaniment featuring the percussion section. The final movement, Dundonnell, features two highly contrasting melodies, a wild presto and the bagpipe melody first heard in the first movement.Composer: Philip SparkeInstrumentation: Concert Band/HarmoniePublisher: Anglo Music PressSeries: Anglo Music Midway SeriesDifficulty: 5Product Type: Set (Score & Parts)Duration: 0:17:00Year of Publication: 2002ISMN: 9790570290475
Russian composer, pianist and conductor Sergeij Rachmaninow (1873-1943) is regarded as one of the most versatile musicians of his time. He wrote symphonies, piano concertos, chamber music, tone poems, operas and songs. As concert pianist he was in great international demand, his many concert tours brought him to Europe and the United States. During World War I he fled through Sweden to the U.S. with his family, and he almost totally lost his inspiration for composing. In 1930, he moved back to Europe, buying a property in Switzerland and building a great mansion. In consequence of World War II he had to flee to the U.S. again, where he died in Beverly Hills in 1943, just before his 70th birthday. Polka Italienne is based on a melody that Rachmaninow heard in Italy at the beginning of the 1900s, played by an old street organ. He liked the melody very much and wrote it down for piano right after he had returned to his hotel. Today, the edition for four-handed piano is regarded as the original version. German composer and arranger Stefan Schwalgin has carefully created a skillfully orchestrated new version, meeting the standards and requirements of a modern European wind orchestra and bringing 'Polka Italienne' to the wonderful sound of winds.
Flanders FieldsDan PriceCommissioned in 2014 by the 2nd Rossendale Scout Band, Flanders Fields was composed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I, also known as the Great War. It is a reflective work which uses a hymn as its basis, infusing the sound of bugle calls and marching drums to convey the impression of a conflict rather than depicting a specific battle.Narration and wordless choir can be included as part of the performance.Duration: 00:07:30Grade: 3

La Fiesta Mexicana (concert band)Following a year of studying Mexican folk music, Reed created this work which is subtitled A Mexican Folk Song Symphony for Concert Band. Set in three contrasting movements, the entire work musically portrays a religious festival. The variety of textures is evident from the beginning of the first movement entitled "Prelude and Aztec Dance." The second movement, "Mass," is more somber and reflective. "Carnival," the last movement, is joyous and invigorating. A hearty time-honored work. ISBN: BDM03027Publisher: WarnerGenre: Latin, ContemporaryGrades: Grade 5Language: EnglishDurata:21:58
