Dette stykket handler om livsforløpet til en tornado, og hvem kan vel bedre fremstille det enn en tuba? Stykket har tre satser:
I - Impatient Storm Cell
II - Cumulus Clouds
III - Multiple Vortex Tornado
Her er det utfordringer i dynamikk og artikulasjon, og ikke minst i samspillet med solisten. Stykket er basert på en skala som har syv toner (slik Tornado har syv bokstaver) og noteres som
Eb-dur natura med tre løse fortegn. Det er kun disse syv tonene som brukes igjennom hele stykket.

TUBA TORNADO
This piece explores the life span of a tornado and which instrument is better suited for that than just the tuba? The piece has three movements:
I - Impatient Storm Cell
II - Cumulus Clouds
III - Multiple Vortex Tornado
To the conductor:
This piece presents challenges in dynamics and articulation, as well as in the interplay with the soloist. The piece is based on a scale of seven pitches (as Tornado has seven letters) and is notated as a concert Eb major scale with three accidentals. Only these seven notes are played throughout the piece. Playing time appx. 10 minutes.
HANS OFFERDAL (1971)
Hans Offerdal er utdannet ved Norges musikkhøgskole, Universitetet i Oslo, Kingston University London, og University of California Los Angeles, innen musikkteori og komposisjon. Han arbeider i dag som komponist, arrangør og dirigent, og underviser ved Norges musikkhøgskole og Barratt Due musikkinstitutt i satslære og musikkteoretiske fag, samt filmmusikk. Med erfaring som strekker seg fra arbeid med studiomusikere i Hollywood til skolekorps i Oslo, er Hans en aktiv opphavsmann ved forlaget Norsk Noteservice as, med musikk for forskjellige besetninger og nivåer.
HANS OFFERDAL (1971)
Hans Offerdal holds degrees in music theory and composition from The Norwegian State Academy of Music, The University of Oslo, Kingston University London, and the University of California, Los Angeles. Currently a professional composer, arranger and conductor, he also teaches at The State Academy and Barratt Due Music Institute. With experience ranging from professional recording musicians in Hollywood to school bands in Oslo, he is an active contributor at Norsk Noteservice as with music for various ensembles at various levels.
